HRH The Princess Royal officially opened the new Barrhead Foundry, East Renfrewshire on 19 May 2015. During her visit she spent time with Barrhead school children, met local people who use the Foundry for sport and leisure and talked to business owners who also use its business zone areas.
Having been received by Mr Guy Clark, Lord-Lieutenant for Renfrewshire, he and Mrs Lorraine McMillan, Chief Executive, East Renfrewshire Council, escorted HRH as she toured various parts of the facility, including its new library and various sports facilities. HRH met not only local politicians, senior managers and others responsible for the development, construction and management of the project and facilities, but also some of those involved in other local regeneration initiatives. The Venue Manager, Senior Community Learning and Development Worker, students, local school pupils and the Barrhead Foundry Team Leader were amongst those presented to The Princess Royal. HRH also met Mr David Bell who had suggested the name given to the building.
At the conclusion of the visit, following the unveiling of a plaque, Miss Lauren Cosgrove (Age 9), East Renfrewshire Citizen of the Year 2014, presented HRH with flowers.
