Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

When our late Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday 8 September 2022, she had served for a remarkable period of more than 70 years and we had just marked Her Platinum Jublilee, a milestone that was unprecedented in all our lifetimes and which became a jubilant national festival of celebration.

The death of the Queen in September of that year, resulted in a continuation of the national outpouring of love, gratitude and affection for the lifetime of service of the Queen, which was felt very deeply across the nation and especially here in Scotland.

On the death of the Queen, King Charles III immediately acceded to the throne, with proclamations cascading across the nation on 11 September to announce the accession, beginning in St James Palace, and then with Lord Lyon at the Mercat Cross in Edinburgh and onwards to Paisley then Greenock.
