Assisted assisted by Philip Rodney DL, the Lord-Lieutenant presented the King’s Award for Voluntary Service to Mearns Kirk Helping Hands for their tremendous work in ‘reducing isolation and loneliness and improving wellbeing for older people and those living with dementia. The ceremony was a very happy celebration of the wonderful work of this group and supported by local MP Blair McDougall and Provost Mary Montague with about 60 of the 140 Mears Kirk Helping Hands volunteers enjoying the moment. To put this in context, it is only the 10th QAVS/KAVS in East Renfrewshire since the inception of the Award in 2003.
