On Friday, the Lord Lieutenant joined  Sheriff Principal Sean Murphy as he inducted 14 new Justices of the Peace in Paisley Sheriff Court. Each new JP swore or affirmed an oath of allegiance to HM The King. The ceremony had many historic resonances dating back to 1609 when James VI (James I) introduced the Act Anent the Commissioners and Justices of Peace into the Parliament of Scotland. At that time JPs were described as men who were required to be ‘Godly, Wise and Virtuous’!
